The 2020 Olympic Games will be one like no other.
And that isn’t only limited to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic restricting socialisation at the Olympic Village between delegations or the absence of fans at venues.
For the first time in Olympic history, there will be an almost equal number of male and female flag bearers.
This feat was accomplished after the International Olympic Committee agreed to allow nations to have one male and female flag bearer during the opening ceremony in an effort to promote gender equality.

Here are the athletes chosen to be flag bearers for the Caribbean nations.
Aruba
Swimmers Mikel Schreuders and Allyson Ponson will lead the Aruban delegation in their pursuit of the country’s first Olympic medal.
Schreuders and Ponson are competing at their second Olympic Games.
Three athletes will be representing Aruba in swimming and shooting.
Barbados
Swimmers Danielle Titus and Alex Sobers have been given the honour to carry the Barbadian flag during the opening ceremony.
This will be Titus’s second Olympic Games while Sobers is making her debut.
The British Virgin Islands 
Swimmer Elinah Phillip and hurdler Kyron McMaster will lead the British Virgin Islands’ delegation.
Both athletes will be competing at their second Olympic Games.
McMaster is a favourite to medal in the men’s 400-metre hurdles.
Bermuda
Dara Alizadeh will take a break from the men’s rowing single sculls competition on Friday to lead Bermuda’s into battle.
This is his Olympic debut.
Belize
Sprinters Samantha Dirks and Shaun Gill will lead Belize’s small delegation in Tokyo.
Cayman Islands
Veteran swimmer Brett Fraser will be reprising his role as the Cayman Islands Olympic Opening Ceremony flag bearer.
He will share flag-bearing duties with swimmer Jillian Crooks, who is participating in her first Olympic Games.
Cuba
Wresting great Mijaín López and discus thrower Yaime Perez are the co-flag bearers for Cuba.
López is seeking a fourth consecutive gold medal in the Greco-Roman wrestling 130 kg category while Perez, who is a favourite for gold, is seeking redemption after her failure in Rio 2016.
Dominican Republic
Veteran volleyballer Prisilla Rivera will be accompanied by Olympic debutant Rodrigo Marte at the head of the Dominican Republic‘s delegation.
“There are no words that define the feelings that this blessing of being the flag bearer provokes in me, and even more so in these last Olympic Games,” Rivera said in an Instagram post after it was announced that she was chosen to be the flag bearer.
“Privileged and grateful to carry our beautiful flag and walk in front of all those athletes who go with me with that great dream of winning a medal for our country, I will always say it until my heart stops beating.”

Dominica
Long jumper Thea La Fond and 800-metre specialist Dennick Luke will fly the Dominican flag
They are the only athletes representing the Commonwealth of Dominica in Tokyo.
This will be La Fond’s second Olympic Games and Luke’s first.
Grenada
Swimmers Delron Felix and Kimberly Ince are the Spice Isle’s male and female flag bearers.
Team Grenada will appear at number 61 in the Parade of Nations.
Jamaica
Boxer Ricardo Brown and sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce have been chosen to lead Jamaica’s delegation of 50 athletes during the opening ceremony on Friday.
Brown is Jamaica’s first boxer to compete at an Olympic Games since 1996.
Fraser-Pryce, who is affectionately called the pocket-rocket, is a favourite to take home the 100m and 200m titles.
Guyana
Olympic debutants Chelsea Edghill and Andrew Fowler will be tasked with carrying the “Golden Arrowhead” at the opening ceremony.
Edghill will open her Olympic table tennis campaign a few hours later against Fiji’s Sally Yee.
Haiti
“This year for the first time in the history of the games a man – woman duo will carry the flag of the delegations (Judokate Sabiana Anestor and boxer Darrelle Valsaint JR for Haiti),” according the Haitian Olympic Team Representation on Instagram.
Team Haiti is composed of 15 members including six athletes.

St Kitts and Nevis
Sprinters Jason Rogers and Amya Clarke, who are the only athletes on St Kitts and Nevis’ team, are the federation’s flag bearers.
Rogers is making his second appearance at an Olympic Games while Clarke is making her debut.
St Lucia
Veteran high jumper Laverne Spencer returns as the flag bearer for St Lucia at the Olympic Games.
This is expected to be the 38-year-old’s final Olympic Games.
Trinidad and Tobago
Veteran Olympian Kelly-Ann Baptiste will be the first woman to be the flag bearer for Trinidad and Tobago.
Baptiste, who competes in the 100 m and 4x100m, will be competing in her fifth successive Olympic Games.
Suriname
Jair Tjon En Fa is expected to be the flag bearer for Suriname.
He competes in men’s cycling.
